Scarborough Hospital to host Open Day

Scarborough Hospital is to host an Open Day on Saturday 4 September, from 10am until 3pm. This event will coincide with the Trust’s Annual General Meeting which will take place in the Postgraduate Centre at 1pm.

The open day will showcase the range of new health services now available at the hospital and will provide a fun day out for the whole community.   

Visitors will be offered tours of the hospital, which will include access to some of the hospital’s new areas, not normally open to the public. These include a look around one of the newly refurbished theatres, the new women’s unit and Maple Ward – the hospital’s new 28- bedded ward. There may also be the opportunity to look around the new £1million Midwifery led unit; however this is dependent on whether the unit is in full use on the day.

Hospital staff will also be manning information stands on a host of subjects including:

• Men’s health
• Infant feeding
• Heart disease prevention
• Patient Safety
• Smoking cessation
• Respiratory problems
• Parkinson’s Disease
• MS
• First aid
• Pressure ulcer prevention
• Safety in the sun
• As well as mini health checks

There will also be an opportunity to find out about jobs within the NHS and courses to help people return to nursing following a career break.

The Hospital Radio team will be on hand to interview staff and visitors throughout the day whilst the Children’s Ward will host a kids club.

The WRVS will be holding a tombola and book stall whilst The League of Friends will be selling items from their charity shop – so it will also be a good opportunity to pick up a bargain as well as health advice.

There will also be a chance to see some healthy eating cookery demonstrations in the East Riding of Yorkshire public health vehicle.

Partner organisations, the Fire Service and the Safer Communities Partnership will also be in attendance.

Chief Executive Richard Sunley said:  “There have been many exciting new developments at Scarborough Hospital over recent years.  We are very proud of the Hospital and the work that our staff do and we want to showcase this excellent work to the public.

“We held a similar event at Bridlington hospital last year which proved very popular.

“We decided to coincide our annual general meeting with an open day to try to encourage more people to attend the meeting. The AGM is an open meeting which gives the public the opportunity to find out more about what we do.

“Scarborough Hospital is very much part of the local community and we want to encourage local people to come and take a look around.”

The PSP Association is the only organisation in the UK dedicated to the support of people with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and the related disease Cortico Basal Degeneration (CBD) and those who care for them. 

As PSP and CBD are very similar,  ‘PSP’  is often used as a shorthand for both.

Music for a Summer Afternoon

Join us for an afternoon of entertainment from The Merrybanks male voice choir, followed by strawberries and cream.

There will be stalls selling cakes, gifts, greeting cards, soft toys, etc, plus information on PSP will be available.

This event will be held at the Burnby Hall Rooms, next to the world famous Burnby Hall Gardens, Pocklington, Yorkshire, on Sunday 22 August from 2pm to 5pm.
